Fergie League Playoffs...week 1

by Colin Cummins

The 11u, 14u and 18u giants in action

The playoffs opened this past weekend and our 11u, 14u and 18u teams drove down the QEW to St. Catharines and Welland, with their eyes on playoff glory. Both the 11u and 14u started on fire against their Friday evening opponents and won their games.  The 18u while short staffed put a scare in the hometown Bullettproof prospects. But conceded at the end with a loss.

Saturday morning didn't fare any better for the 18s,  who ended their playoffs with a loss to the Ontario Cardinals. We are so proud of the our 18u players. Compete,  resilience and talent made them a hard team to play against all season.

14U OGs:

The 14u had their hands full in their second game vs the Ontario Rockies. The boys played hard and competed, yet loss to the perennial 14u Champions. The boys had a 3rd game to play for their playoffs to continue. Next opponent is the Ace of Spades (AOS).  Once again, after playing their hearts out, they came out the victors with a 7-0 win. There was a little bit of this and a little of that in this game.  Game 4 placed our guys against the Kingston Colts.  After the dust settled, another scorcher and giving whatever they had left in the tank. Kingston outlasted the boys for the win.

We are so proud of our 14u players and coaches. So proud!! All season long with a mixed aged team. The development and compete level of this team was awesome. Congratulations boys for a tremendous season. Wins do not account for what you learned and the young men you are becoming.

11u OGs

As mentioned,  the 11u OGs opened up their playoff hunt with a win against the Bullettproof Prospects. Game 2 saw the boys up against the Halton Badgers and they passed the test again, putting themselves at 2-0 going into Saturday. Saturday Morning,  sees our guys finishing round robin play against the Oakville Hammers. With a win the boys would finish first or a loss would place them 2nd. Unfortunately,  they came out with a loss. However,  they were in great shape heading into the semi finals and Championship Sunday.

Championship Sunday:  The 9am semi final game has our OGs up against the Halton Badgers. Our guys went up early and held on for the WIN, even through a brief late run, by the badgers. THEY ARE GOING TO THE SHIP!!!

Championship finals found us facing the Oakville Hammers. After going back and forth for 4 innings. The Hammers started to find the holes and scored more than we did, in the last 3 innings. in the end, the Hammers pulled out the win. But what a great run by our 11u team.

Great job coaches and players. We are extremely proud of you and your achievements!! What a great step in the right direction for the teams and the organization.
